SATELLITE MANIA

The World Series of Poker is all but over except for the Main Event. Fortunately, other major poker events are on the horizon. The Irish Winter Festival is heating up and the Aruba Classic, among others, is on the way.

AbsolutePoker.com

Check out AP’s sister site AbsolutePoker.net for satellites to The Sports Legends – the ultimate sports fantasy experience. For the first time, sports fans from around the world will compete with and against 25 of the greatest American sports legends, including Troy Aikman, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Richard Petty and Sugar Ray Leonard. The event will also feature 25 of the world’s top poker pros, including Phil Hellmuth, Annie Duke, Chris Moneymaker, Johnny Chan and others. The sports legends, poker pros and participants will compete in a wide range of tournaments for up to $10,000,000. On 14-17th September, the inaugural Sports Legends Challenge, benefitting the Butch Kerzner Summit Foundation, will take place at Atlantis, Paradise Island, Bahamas. The feature event will be the Sports Legends All-Star Poker Challenge, which will pair the sports legends, poker pros and top-finishing competitors in a winner-take-all no-limit Texas hold’em grand finale. That tournament will be televised in November.
The first international event is set to take place in London in 2010. For a complete list of participating legends or for more information, visit SportsLegends.com.
Speaking of legendary events, Absolute Poker qualified around 100 members to play in the World Series of Poker.
One player made it through AP’S WSOP stardom step tournament, a type of sit-n-go that allows you to win your seat in major land-based events for a low buy-in. AP offered ten “Step” tournaments, with the final Step featuring the big prize – a seat at the Main Event.
The first ten Steps qualifiers also won an Aruba Classic Package worth $8.5K Others qualified through satellites starting for as little as $10. And 50 members won entry through a 50-Seat Guaranteed event to the WSOP on 21st June. If an AP qualifier wins the Main Event while wearing AP gear, he or she will get an extra $10 million.

BetCrisPoker.com

Some lucky player at BetCrisPoker.com won a $13,000 World Series Vacation Package to the Main Event through a World Series Super Satellite in June. Others qualified for the Super Satellite by playing 800 to 1200 raked hands.
On an unfortunate note, the Latin Series of Poker was forced to postpone its inaugural LSOP event 3rd through 9th August in Panama City, Panama, because of travel fears related to the threat of the Swine Flu.
BetCris offered LSOP qualifiers World Series promotions in lieu of the LSOP promotions previously posted. And all players who already qualified for $6000 LSOP vacation and travel packages received alternative poker tournament vacations/prizes worth more than $6000 or cash.

Betfred will add £1,500 to the prize pool of each regional event and £5,000 to the Grand Final prize pool. Each regional heat winner will gain a seat in the Grand Final and the eventual winner will be crowned Betfred Ladies Poker Tour Champion 2009 and will win a £20,000 sponsorship package from Betfred for 2010.
BetFred also ran a super satellite promotion to the WSOP Main Event. Forty seats worth $13,000 were guaranteed in the Mega Satellite.
In addition, BetFred awarded a $25,000 Executive Package to the WSOP for the winners of six consecutive WSOP 2009 Executive Jackpot Sit-n-Gos.
But the WSOP promos didn’t stop there. BetFred ran a super satellite promotion to the WSOP no-limit hold’em side events. The $6,000 package covered entry to side events 28 and 34. And the online poker room also provided a super satellite promotion to the WSOP World Championship of Pot-Limit Omaha.

Players who already qualified for $6000 LSOP vacation and travel packages received alternative poker tournament vacations/prizing worth more than $6,000, or cash.

LadbrokesPoker.com

Ladbrokes made dreams come true with its Ladbrokes $5,000 Vegas Dream. Instead of full packages this year, it provided smaller packages for more players.
As the WSOP drew near, Ladbrokes Poker upped its Monthly MTT leaderboard prize pool by $6,500 and gave away three Vegas Dream packages to the top three finishers. In addition, Ladbrokes Poker created a way for players to win their seat to Vegas for free with a weekly freeroll. Freeroll players competed for ten guaranteed seats into the Vegas Dream daily final where one Vegas package was guaranteed to be won.
In other news, Ladbrokes announced that it will be holding the 2009 Irish Poker Festival from 2-4 October at the INEC in Killarney. The prize pool is guaranteed at €250,000. LittlewoodsPoker.com
LittlewoodsPoker handed out a dozen $17,000 packages to the WSOP Main Event in Vegas. Players qualified through small satellites, a freeroll or by buying in directly to the weekly satellite. The twelve are small in number, but they are expected to make a lot of noise in the Big One.

PKR.com

It’s not too early to start thinking about Aruba. UltimateBet has kicked into high gear for the 8th Annual Aruba Poker Classic, scheduled for 3rd through 10th October at the Radisson Aruba Resort, Casino & Spa. The eight-day event culminates with the Aruba Poker Classic Championship Event. Buy-in is $5000+$500, or you can satellite in.
Check UltimateBet.com for details and schedule of qualifiers or register now at the ArubaClassic.com to receive regular updates, and you’ll be the first to find out the latest news detailing satellites and promotions for the Aruba Poker Classic.
“Aside from winning my 12th bracelet, the weeklong Aruba Poker Classic poker experience is what I’m looking forward to the most this year,” said UltimateBet pro Phil Hellmuth. “Millions in prize money, more players than ever, UB’s tenth birthday bash and unbelievable parties. I mean, what’s not to love?”
UltimateBet came up with a ton of ways to give away seats at the 2009 World Series of Poker. The site ran Step tournaments and weekly Super Satellites. In celebration of the online poker room’s tenth anniversary, it also held a World Series of Poker 50-Package Satellite, which awarded at least 50 seats for the Main Event.
UB also let members take a shot at Phil Hellmuth in UltimateBet’s Beat the Brat Promotion on four Tuesdays in May. All a player had to do was take down Hellmuth in UB’s weekly Bounty Tournament. The player who did won entry into UltimateBet’s 50-seat WSOP Guaranteed tourney.
And just in case you didn’t learn your lesson, the site handed out some WSOP Academy VIP Packages to qualified players on the eve of the WSOP Main Event. The three-day master class delivered some intense poker instruction from UltimateBet’s Phil Hellmuth, Annie Duke and Mark Seif.

As they did to acclaim in the Irish Open, PaddyPowerPoker has launched a Sole Survivor promotion for the Irish Winter Festival. Marcel Koch won €100,000 for lasting the longest at the Irish Open, and the PPP member who qualifies online at paddypowerpoker.com and then lasts the longest at the IWF Irish Masters main event will win a €20,000 package in addition to whatever prize money he or she wins in the tournament. The package itself is made up of €10,000 in cash and €10,000 for live event buy-ins, including next year’s Irish Open and the Irish Winter Festival, plus expenses.
“The Sole Survivor promotion really spiced up this year’s Irish Open,” said Paddy Power, communications manager for paddypowerpoker.com. “It’s never too early to grab your seat and stake your claim as our next Sole Survivor!”
PaddyPowerPoker also had a good showing at the WSOP, handing out 40 WSOP packages worth $13,000 each to players at its Mega Satellite in June.
